Anistratov Rudall & Rose
The Anistratov Rudall & Rose flute is a refined and faithful homage to the illustrious tradition of English flute-making, inspired by exemplary historical instruments crafted by Rudall & Rose and Rudall & Carte—names long revered amongst the finest artisans of the early 19th century.
In Alexander Anistratov’s considered view, these instruments embody the pinnacle of excellence for Irish traditional music. Their extraordinary tonal character, coupled with impeccable responsiveness, renders them a natural choice for discerning musicians. Every flute is conceived not merely as a musical tool, but as a singular work of craftsmanship and artistry—each detail meticulously observed and faithfully reproduced in the spirit of the originals.
The principal timber selected for this model is premium African Blackwood, prized for its density, stability, and rich acoustic properties. However, alternative woods—including Boxwood, Cocobolo, Mopane, Ebony, Lignum Vitae, and Snakewood—are also available upon request. It is worth noting that the choice of timber subtly shapes the voice of the instrument; thus, prospective players are encouraged to consult directly with the maker to explore the tonal nuances afforded by each variety.
The Anistratov Rudall & Rose model is offered in a sleek unkeyed form, or with a traditional complement of six or eight keys (Low C, Low C♯, D♯, F short, F long, G♯, B♭, C), all of which are exquisitely hand-forged, block-mounted, and balanced with meticulous care to ensure optimal playability and long-term reliability. Metal-lined saddles may also be specified as a bespoke option.
Each headjoint is equipped with an elegant tuning slide, allowing for precise adjustment of pitch. To enhance durability and tonal clarity, the headjoint is partially metal-lined—this not only protects the vulnerable wooden section from cracking, but also serves to enrich resonance and bring forth the full harmonic palette of the chosen timber.
